November, 2009 DMS employees participate in School Volunteers Program in Springfield, MA Community On Thursday, November 12, 2009, employees from Disability Management Services, Inc. will be concluding an eight week math tutoring program with students from the Elias Brookings Elementary School. Nine volunteers have been tutoring students since September 24, 2009.
The relationship came about when Tiffany L. Greene, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources at Disability Management Services, Inc., and Julia Ortiz, Program Manager at Springfield School Volunteers, met in a Springfield Leadership Institute, 2009 class hosted by The Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield, Inc. in collaboration with the Western New England College School of Business. Mrs. Greene states "DMS Volunteers have enjoyed the sense of accomplishment that comes from helping the children with math. It's an important life skill, and opens so many other doors. We're proud to be associated with the program, and to provide employees with the opportunity to volunteer their time at the Brookings Elementary School". Disability Management Services, Inc. has committed to continuing its relationship with Brookings School in 2010. November, 2009 DMS is a Team Sponsor for Junior Achievement's Student Stock Market Challenge DMS was a team sponsor for the 4th Annual Junior Achievement Student Stock Market Challenge held on November 5th at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts. Twenty-two area high schools participated in the Stock Market Challenge, sending 109 teams totaling 475 students. The Stock Market Challenge is an advanced high-tech stock market simulation where teams compete in a virtual world to see who will amass the highest net-worth by the end of the investing period. The event is fast-paced, with teams competing though sixty trading days in one hour, or a new trading day every minute. Junior Achievement is the world's largest organization dedicated to educating young people about business, economics and free enterprise.
October, 2009 DMS recognized as "Super 60" award winner For the ninth consecutive year, DMS has been recognized by the Affiliated Chambers of Commerce of Greater Springfield as a "Super 60" award winner for the year 2009. Now in its twentieth year, the program celebrates the success of the fastest-growing, privately-owned businesses which continue to make signifcant contributions to the strength of the regional economy. DMS was recognized in the Total Revenue category. The "Super 60" award program is open to privately held companies based in Hampden and Hampshire counties that have been in business for at least three years and have generated revenues of at least $1 million in the last fiscal year.
August, 2009 DMS contracts with The City of Springfield, MA to provide Pension Disability Claim Consulting Services. DMS has entered into a consulting agreement with The City of Springfield, MA to provide pension disability claim consulting services and medical records reviews.
July, 2009 DMS contracts with the Zoological Society of San Diego to provide Pension Disability Claim Consulting Services. DMS has entered into an agreement with the Zoological Society of San Diego to provide Independent Medical Exam ("IME") services, medical records and IME reviews, and eligibility assessments for their disability pension claims. The Zoological Society of San Diego is a non-profit organization and claims the largest zoological society membership in the world, with more than 250,000 member households and 130,000 child memberships, representing more than a half million people.
May, 2009 DMS recognized as a 2009 Gold Level Recipient of the American Heart Association's Start! Fit-Friendly Company DMS was recognized as a Gold Level Recipient of the American Heart Association's Start! Fit-Friendly Companies Recognition program at the 2009 American Heart Association's Heart Walk held on May 17th at Forest Park in Springfield, Massachusetts.
The Start! Fit-Friendly Companies Program is a catalyst for positive change in American business. Companies throughout the nation can be part of the Start! initiative by demonstrating progressive leadership by making the health and wellness of their employees a priority.
DMS was recognized as a Gold Level Start! Fit-Friendly Company by the American Heart Association's Start! initiative for fulfilling the following parameters:
offer employees physical activity support;
provide/increase healthy eating options at the worksite;
promote a wellness culture; and
implement at least nine criteria as outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture.
May, 2009 DMS supports Disability Insurance Awareness Month (DIAM) May 2009 is Disability Insurance Awareness Month. During this month, the insurance industry focuses on raising awareness of the enormous gap that exists between Americans need for disability income protection and the actual coverage they have in place. The LIFE Foundation is coordinating this industry-wide campaign with dozens of insurance companies and other industry trade groups. During the month of May, the DMS website will display the DIAM logo with a link to the LIFE Foundation website.
